During the SEV Industrial Conference 2023, “Fulfilling our Potential – Shaping our Future”, SEV Hellenic Federation of Enterprises’ Industrial Conference, at Megaron, the Athens Concert Hall, the intervention of the CEO of ELVIAL S.A and Secretary General of the Board of Directors of the Hellenic Aluminum Association at the SEV Industrial Conference Ms. Asimina Tzikas, touched upon the key issue of the competitiveness of Greek and European industry in a very demanding global environment.
Representing women at the helm of Greek industry and a company with an important regional role on a European level, Ms. Asimina Tzika spoke at SEV's industrial conference "Plan and breakthroughs for the future of our capabilities", about the challenges faced by Greek industry and the ways it can cope for it.

Ms. Tzikas and Alexandre Affre – Deputy Director General, BusinessEurope, Joris Cocquyt, Global Head of Sales IEC LV Motors Division, ABB and Dr Dirk Didascalou, Chief Technology Officer, Digital Industries, Siemens AG were the speakers of the first central panel of the industrial conference "From globalization to strategic autonomy: What is the position of the EU and Greece in global investment and industrial competitiveness?" coordinated by journalist Niki Lymberakis.
Ms. Tzikas presented in a concise manner the new global environment in which Greek industries are called upon to operate and emphasized that corporations are the ones that need to demonstrate quick reflexes - to evolve into advanced industries with a significant green footprint, to contribute to local communities and at the same time to remain competitive in a global market.
She also estimates, the factors that will determine the future of Greek businesses are first of all firm will and commitment of the business community, the financial security of these enterprises, so that they can allocate the necessary resources for the implementation of the required investments, and the human resources that will be called to carry out these changes.
Regarding the technologies of the 4th Industrial Revolution - as the most important pillar for business competitiveness, it is necessary to digitise all traditional production processes in industry and at the same time create tools that can be used by all parties concerned. At the same time, she pointed out that it is necessary to include in this planning the services accompanying the products (beyond their qualitative and technical characteristics) for European industries to distinguish themselves internationally.
Regarding green policies for the environment, Ms. Tzika noted that it is necessary to design and implement targeted energy-saving programmes and actions for industry, to remove bureaucratic hurdles and to create infrastructure so that every company can invest in the production of clean energy to meet its own needs.
Finally, for the implementation of all the above, it is necessary to educate the staff of Greek industries. Flexible legislation is therefore needed to enable the recruitment of both qualified and unskilled labor personnel, who should be trained in the tools available in the context of the 4th industrial revolution. Ms Tzika suggested here that lifelong learning policies and retraining of staff in new skills should be managed centrally.
Up to now, management has been carried out at the level of each individual company, with the result that crucial know-how that could benefit and promote the sector and its competitiveness as a whole, is not produced effectively.
