ELVIAL participated as a sponsor in the initiative for the restoration of the iconic sculpture “The Umbrellas” by George Zongolopoulos in Thessaloniki’s New Waterfront, a landmark work that stands as a timeless symbol of the city and a point of reference for both residents and visitors.
The renewed and fully restored artwork was officially presented and delivered to the public during a special ceremony held in the presence of representatives of the Municipality of Thessaloniki, the George Zongolopoulos Foundation, the Federation of Industries of Greece (SVE), and member companies that contributed to the implementation of the restoration works.

The interventions on the sculpture were made possible through a donation by SVE and its member companies, aiming to preserve and protect a work of significant cultural and symbolic value for Thessaloniki.
The restoration works were carried out by the George Zongolopoulos Foundation and included the repair of damage that had accumulated over time, as well as the installation of a new lighting system featuring modern, energy-efficient multicolour LED technology.

The artwork had suffered considerable damage, mainly due to human interference and the region’s specific weather conditions, highlighting once again the importance of continuous care and protection of public art and cultural heritage.
ELVIAL has consistently supported initiatives that contribute to improving quality of life, enhancing public space, and preserving living symbols of culture connected to the architecture, identity, and history of cities.
Through actions with a social and cultural impact, the company continues to invest in initiatives that strengthen the bond between people and their cities, contributing to the creation of meaningful value for society, local communities, and future generations.
